Where things stand today
Tribute Studios is a working preview. We would rather tell you what is not finished than have you find out during a hard week.
- No live payments. Checkout is connected to Stripe in test mode only. The product refuses live payment keys, so a real card cannot be charged. Until payments open, the download and the memorial page are not held back.
- No recorded songs yet. The song studio produces lyrics and a musical direction. Generating the recording is not connected. A film that uses your song plays one of our own studio instrumentals instead, and the page says so.
- No photo retouching yet. Automatic AI photo retouching comes with every film, and the retouching service is not connected in this preview. Each photograph is marked as waiting, nothing is sent anywhere, and the film uses the photograph as it was added. The comparison on the home page is a prepared sample.
- No automated email. Nothing in the product sends email. If you write to us, a person replies.
- No reviews or partner logos. We are new. Anything on this site described as a sample is one we made ourselves about an invented person.
How artificial intelligence is used
There is one use: optional help with words. In the song studio and in the biography, you can ask for a suggestion. The request goes to Claude, a language model made by Anthropic, and the suggestion comes back for you to keep, change or discard.
The rules we give it
- Use only the details the family has given.
- Never invent a name, a place, a date, an event or a relationship. If a detail is missing, write around it gently.
- Leave any section the family has locked exactly as it is.
- Write in warm, plain Australian English.
What it never touches
- Photographs, clips and recordings are not sent to an AI model today. When photo retouching is connected, a photograph will be sent only to be retouched, and the privacy page will name the provider first. We do not analyse faces.
- We do not clone voices or create a likeness of the person who has died.
- The film is assembled by ordinary video software from the photographs the family chose, in the order they chose. No image is generated or altered beyond the gentle movement and the look you pick.
- Your words and photographs are not used to train any model.
If you would rather not use it
Do nothing. Writing help only runs when you press the button that asks for it. Without it the studio arranges your own notes into a starting draft on its own, and nothing leaves the service. A person should always read the final words aloud before a service, whoever or whatever helped write them.
Consent for recordings and photographs
Music recordings
You can add one recording of up to 20 MB as the film's music, for example a family member singing or a piece you have had recorded. Before it is accepted, you are asked to confirm that the family has the right to use it, and the upload is refused without that confirmation.
A commercial song you have bought or streamed is usually licensed for private listening only. Playing it at a service is generally covered by the venue's or funeral director's music licence, but putting it under a film that is shared online can need separate permission. If you are unsure, ask your funeral director, or use one of our studio instrumentals, which we made ourselves and which are cleared for your film and memorial page.
Recordings of a person's voice
If a recording includes someone speaking or singing, please make sure they agreed to it being used, or, if they have died, that their close family is comfortable with it. Video clips play without their sound in the film, so a voice in a clip is not heard.
Photographs
- Guests should add only photographs they took, own, or have been given to share.
- Nothing a guest adds appears in the film until the family has chosen it.
- Anyone shown in a photograph can ask for it to be taken down. Ask the family, or ask us.
Who can reach a tribute
- Every family and every funeral home has its own account. One account cannot see or change another's tributes, and this is checked by automated tests on every change we make.
- Guest and family links are long random addresses. A guest link can only add. A family link can choose and prepare, but cannot pay or change the size of the film.
- The memorial page is unpublished until the account holder shares it, and search engines are asked not to list it.
Cultural care
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families may have protocols about showing the image or saying the name of someone who has died. The family decides what is shown, the memorial page stays private until they share it, and it can be unpublished at any time.
If you are struggling
We make tools, and we are not counsellors. Lifeline answers at any hour on 13 11 14. Griefline offers free telephone support on 1300 845 745 during its opening hours. In an emergency call 000.
Telling us something is wrong
If you see a photograph that should not be there, a tribute made without a family's knowledge, or anything that worries you, tell us. A person will read it and act. More on what we hold and how to delete it is on the privacy page.
